After being kicked off the LSU football team for violating team rules, it was believed that the 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist cornerback, Tyrann Mathieu, would transfer schools, preferably in a lower division, in order to play this year. Well, it looks like Tyrann will not be transferring and will not be playing football this year. According to the good folks at USA Today, the "Honey Badger" has checked into Houston's Right Step drug rehabilitation facility and will not play football during the 2012 season.
Some would think that Tyrann should have transferred but I think this was the right move. He still has two years left of eligibility and taking a year off to get his mind and body right is a smart move. He can treat this as a red-shirt year, do the rehab, continue going to school at LSU, and still come back next year with LSU and still be one of the top players in the nation. Tyrann also has NBA great John Lucas as his mentor.
